We get asked a lot of questions about our process, background, etc., and we encourage that. This is a Q&A for some of our most common questions. If you have other questions, please don't hesitate to send a note or phone us. We may even share your question.
- What is your process? We fully degrease/clean your cabinetry, sand and vacuum, prime (two coats) and refinish (two coats), sanding between all coats. This is considered standard refinishing.
- Which type of paint do you use for cabinetry refinishing? When spraying, we use a waterborne urethane designed specifically for high-end cabinetry and furniture refinishing. If we are brushing and rolling (as we do many times for oak), we use an alkyd/acrylic paint, which is also designed for cabinetry refinishing. Our products are professional products and offer a durable, beautiful, longlasting finish.
- Do you spray your finishes? We are trained to set up and spray onsite, but we can make accommodations to spray the doors offsite.
- Is spraying expensive? We are competitive in our pricing in the Chicago market. Brushing and rolling the bases (the frame) will reduce the cost of your project, as it is not necessary for us to fully set up to spray onsite.
- I have older oak cabinetry. Can I still have them painted, and will they look good? Painted oak cabinetry is beautiful. There is a little more prep work involved, but the end result is worth it.
- How long does refinishing take? This ultimately depends on the condition of your cabinetry, if we are brushing/rolling vs spraying, as well as other factors unique to your project. One week is generally a good estimate. We are also very thorough in our process, and are more interested in providing a quality finish over hurrying through your project. Refinishing is an investment, and you want your cabinetry finish to last.
- How do I clean my cabinetry after it is painted? We suggest a 30-day cure time. Paint dries relatively quickly, but it takes more time to have a cured finish (maximum durability). Once cured, all you need is a damp cloth with a little Dawn dish soap. Try to wipe down your cabinetry when you notice material vs allowing it to buildup. Do not use any other chemicals on your painted finish. Maintaining your cabinetry is important to a lasting finish.
- Do you offer a warranty? We offer a one-year guarantee for normal wear and tear from completion of the project. This is discussed further in our contract (which will be made available to you prior to your project). This is standard in the refinishing industry.
- Do you have insurance? Yes, we are fully insured. A copy of our insurance certificate can be made available, if necessary.
